Against South Africa | Amongst the teams against whom Guptill has scored over 200 ODI runs, his average of 22.07 against South Africa is the least.
Special Venue | Guptill’s average at Seddon Park in ODI is 44.11, the third best among the 10 players who have batted atleast five innings at the venue.
New Zealand have added Guptill and Jeetan Patel to their squad in a hope to wrestle back control in the Five-match ODI series against the Proteas which stands at 2-1. Guptill’s return is a timely boost for the Kiwis who look to extend their eight-bilateral ODI winning streak at home. Ironically, the last ODI series that New Zealand conceded was against the Proteas in 2014.
Guptill, the second most capped player in team after Ross Taylor would most likely be slotted in place of Tom Latham, who has three ducks and no scores over 10 runs mark in his last six innings.
Martin Guptill has played 11 ODI matches at Seddon Park, Hamilton but it would be his first game against the Proteas at this venue. Out of the nine times he has been dismissed at that venue, he has gone past 30 run mark on five occasions.
Contrastingly, his numbers against South Africa are underwhelming, he has only three 30+ scores in 14 innings against the South African. The hosts would be hoping that Guptill would be able to improve the opening partnerships which is languishing at less than 20 runs in the three games this series.
